Online shows are becoming more popular especially with isolated pony clubs. As well as overcoming distances, the use of photographs enables children to participate in novel categories such as "cutest pony", "fancy dress" and "comedy" classes.

The restrictions placed on horse movements as a result of the Equine Influenza epidemic in 2007 also led to some clubs using on line shows to maintain the enthusiasm of their members.
